Türkiye prepared to provide assistance to Saudi Arabia following latest attacks

Ankara (ANTARA) - Türkiye will honour its promise under the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement in response to the latest military attacks against Saudi Arabia and can provide technical assistance, stated Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Saturday (19/9).

Speaking on the Turkish television station NTV, Fidan said that the signatory nations of the Mecca agreement are closely monitoring Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia.

“We are united on this issue. The agreement contains relevant provisions, which we will honour,” he said.

According to Fidan, Saudi Arabia’s need for military assistance is likely to focus on specific technical aspects, and Türkiye will be able to meet those requirements.

The Turkish Foreign Minister dismissed claims that the implementation of the Mecca agreement is progressing slowly, noting that the alliance remains open to countries across the region and represents a transformative platform.

The Mecca Joint Defence Agreement was signed on 7 August in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, by Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

The agreement stipulates that an attack on one of the signatory parties will be considered an attack on all parties.

Tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni Houthi group have escalated in recent months, as both sides have repeatedly launched attacks against one another.
