Türkiye Plans to Increase Defence Spending by 229 Per Cent

Ankara (ANTARA) - Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz said on Sunday (6/9) that his country plans to increase its defence spending by 229 per cent over the next three years.

“In the defence industry sector, we are striving to build a Türkiye that is capable of developing its own technology and generating high added value,” Yilmaz said at a press conference presenting the country’s three-year Medium-Term Economic Programme for the 2027-2029 period.

Under the programme, Türkiye’s economic growth projection for 2026 has been revised down from 3.8 per cent to 3.3 per cent, whilst the country’s inflation forecast has been raised from 16 per cent to 28.4 per cent.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the country’s military spending reached US$30 billion (US$1 = Rp17,636) in 2025.
