Türkiye joins NASA-led Artemis Accords

Ankara (ANTARA) - The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Tuesday (1/9) that Türkiye signed the Artemis Accords — a space exploration agreement led by NASA — on Monday (31/8).

The agreement aims to enhance the safety of lunar exploration and encourage the peaceful, sustainable, and beneficial use of outer space, according to the ministry in an online statement.

The statement noted that Türkiye will contribute to space technology and exploration through an inclusive and innovative approach based on international law.

The signing takes place amidst Türkiye’s increasingly active space programme. In August, the country announced plans to launch a spacecraft to the Moon in the early months of 2027, supported by a domestically developed hybrid propulsion system.

The Artemis Accords were first signed in 2020 by eight nations: the United States, Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
