Turkish KAAN Fighter Jet Set to Begin Deliveries to Indonesia in 2032
ANKARA – CEO of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI/Tusas) Mehmet Demiroglu has shared the latest detailed information on the KAAN fighter jet and Anka-3 drone project. In an exclusive interview with Oxu.Az, Demiroglu discussed the design, production, testing, and integration processes for Turkey’s fifth-generation fighter jet platform and sixth-generation drone.
“Our goal is to deliver the KAAN to our Air Force in 2028. With our domestically produced engines, we will begin delivering the KAAN to our Air Force and Indonesia starting from 2032 onwards,” Demiroglu stated.
Indonesia, through the Ministry of Defence (Kemenhan) of the Republic of Indonesia, signed a contract to purchase 48 KAAN jets from TAI during the IDEF exhibition in Istanbul in mid-2025. The value of the project is $15 billion, or approximately Rp 251 trillion.
Demiroglu also highlighted the strategic advantages that TAI will provide to the Turkish Air Force as well as its export targets. He stated that prototype flights for the KAAN have been completed.
“Our prototype flights have completed three out of five planned phases, and prototype testing will begin in 2026,” Demiroglu said.
He noted that work is ongoing for the integration of domestic turbofan engines for the aircraft. Demiroglu revealed that full engine integration is targeted around 2032.
Currently, TAI is using General Electric F110 engines to power the KAAN fighter jet. They are also developing the domestic TF35000 engine for use in the fighter jet.
Demiroglu conveyed that TAI hopes to secure more than 300 orders for the fighter jet in the international market. He also disclosed that Turkey is in negotiations with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Demiroglu added that the KAAN is being prepared for export while simultaneously enhancing Turkey’s air power. “Trials for the Anka-3 UAV are proceeding as planned,” he said. The Anka-3 stands out as an advanced technology UAV platform developed by TAI, targeted for delivery to customers starting this year.
