Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan to Visit Indonesia to Discuss Trade and Gaza
Ankara (ANTARA) - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fines is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Indonesia on Wednesday (3/6) to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation, the enhancement of trade and defence relations, and addressing regional and global security challenges.
Fidan is expected to discuss measures to further strengthen cooperation across various sectors in line with the political will demonstrated by the leaders of both nations, according to sources from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday. He is expected to emphasise the importance of deepening cooperation in infrastructure, energy, transport, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, high technology, and the halal food industry to help increase bilateral trade volume to US$10 billion (approximately Rp178.3 trillion).
Fidan will also review ongoing defence industry projects and assess potential new areas of cooperation. Regarding Gaza, Fidan will reaffirm that Turkey and Indonesia remain in close dialogue concerning developments in Palestine and will continue joint efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.
According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Findan will also emphasise the need for coordinated international action in response to Israel’s ceasefire violations in Gaza, provocative actions in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, and the expansion of Israeli military presence in Lebanon.
During his visit to Jakarta, Fidan is expected to discuss developments involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, Syria, the Russia-Ukraine war, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya, as well as broader regional and global security issues in the Asia-Pacific region.
Fidan last visited Indonesia in February 2025 as part of the official visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the country. Relations between Turkey and Indonesia, whose historical ties date back to the 15th century, were elevated to a strategic partnership in 2011. The High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, established during Erdogan’s visit to Indonesia in 2022, held its first meeting in Jakarta in February 2025. The next meeting is expected to take place in Turkey in 2027.
The two nations held their first 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Ankara in January 2026. Bilateral trade volume exceeded US$2.5 billion in 2025, and both countries aim to increase this to US$10 billion in accordance with the target announced during Erdogan’s visit to Indonesia last year.
