ANKARA – Turkey has warned the United States and Israel against escalating military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran through attempts to incite civil war within the country. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasised that any efforts to topple the Mullah government in Tehran through provoking ethnic or religious civil conflict would further inflame the Middle East.

Fidan stated that Turkey would take all necessary measures to prevent any form of external provocation and plans designed to trigger ethnic or belief-based civil war in Iran. “We are completely opposed to any plans to provoke civil war in Iran,” Fidan said, according to Anadolu Agency.

Fidan made this firm statement during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Ankara on Thursday, 13 March 2026. The two foreign ministers discussed various matters, including seeking solutions to end the war between US-Israeli forces and Iran, which has been ongoing for 13 days.

Fidan conveyed a message from President Erdogan urging the international community to adopt various diplomatic roles to halt the fighting. Turkey, according to Fidan, has considered the attacks carried out by US-Israeli forces against Iran as a clear violation of international law from the outset.

However, Turkey also expressed regret over the retaliatory actions undertaken by Iranian military forces that have directly impacted nations in the Arab Gulf region. “The acts of war provocation and attacks against Iran are unjust and violate international law. However, Iran’s attacks against Gulf Arab nations are equally wrong,” Fidan said.
