Turkey Suspects Israel May Seek to Disrupt Iran-US Negotiations
Ankara - The Turkish government views the ongoing talks between Iran and the United States positively, but believes Israel may attempt to disrupt the process, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Monday. “We consider the talks between Iran and the US important. However, we must not forget that Israel could try to disrupt this process at the first opportunity. All parties must remain vigilant,” Fidan stated. Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a conversation with US President Donald Trump on 5 July 2026, expressed hope that the US-Iran negotiations would yield a mutually acceptable long-term solution, according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov. On 18 June, Iran and the US remotely signed a memorandum to end the military conflict that had been ongoing since 28 February. The document also sets a deadline for the US to lift its blockade of Iranian ports and for Iran to restore traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has also committed not to develop nuclear weapons, with the issue of its nuclear programme to be resolved through a separate agreement. Furthermore, the parties will hold negotiations on the matter within 60 days. For Tehran, the desired outcome is the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions.
