Turkey helps build joint schools

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Turkish Red Crescent and the Indonesian Red Cross have completed construction of a joint school in Lhoknga district, Aceh Besar regency for children in the tsunami- devastated area.

The two-story building will accommodate students of the SMP 1, 2 and 3 state junior high schools whose former buildings were leveled by the killer wave on Dec. 26. With six class rooms, the joint school also provides a library, laboratory, and basketball and volleyball courts for students.

Assistant to the provincial administration secretary Syahbuddin BP inaugurated the Rp 2.15 billion (US$215,000) building on behalf of acting Governor Azwar Abubakar. --Antara
