Turkey Denies Supplying Missiles to Iran
The Turkish Presidential Office has vehemently denied reports claiming that it sent arms aid to Iran amid the escalation of conflict in the Middle East. Ankara asserts that the allegations constitute disinformation and “black propaganda” intended to tarnish Turkey’s diplomatic image.
This denial was issued by the Centre for Combating Disinformation (DMM) under the Presidential Communications Directorate, in response to rumours circulating widely on social media and certain news sites.
“Reports claiming that Turkey supplied Iran with modern anti-aircraft missiles and drone missiles, as well as allegations that the downed US F-15 fighter jet was hit by a Turkish portable air defence system, are entirely false and untrue,” the DMM stated firmly in its official statement on Sunday (5/4).
The Turkish government views these false claims as a deliberate psychological warfare attack. The aim is to undermine Turkey’s constructive role, which has been oriented towards peace and diplomatic channels in addressing the regional crisis.
“This information operation aims to mislead the international community and damage our country’s diplomatic successes that have been globally recognised,” the statement continued.
Turkey reaffirms that its political stance remains consistent in maintaining regional stability. Ankara also calls on the international community and the domestic public not to believe “dirty information campaigns” that could manipulate public opinion and damage the fragile political balance in the region.
This issue arose following the incident of a US F-15 fighter jet crashing in Iranian territory on Friday (3/4). Speculation regarding the type of weapon used to down the advanced aircraft continues to grow, triggering accusations of involvement of military technology from neighbouring countries, including Turkey.
With this official denial, Turkey seeks to secure its position as a neutral mediator and prevent being drawn further into the vortex of armed conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel.
