REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ISTANBUL – Turkey’s presidential office has denied reports alleging the shipment of weapons to Iran. The reports were even described as a smear campaign. “Reports appearing on several social media accounts and disinformation websites, claiming that ‘Turkey supplied Iran with modern anti-aircraft missiles and drone missiles, and that the downed US F-15 fighter jet was allegedly hit by a Turkish portable air defence system’, are entirely false and untrue,” stated the Centre for Countering Disinformation (DMM) in the communications directorate of Turkey’s presidential office in a statement on Sunday (5/4/2026). Turkey stated that the false claims, whose sources are clearly identifiable, constitute a deliberate psychological warfare attack. This is also a form of black propaganda to weaken Turkey’s constructive role in the regional crisis as well as efforts oriented towards peace and diplomacy. “Turkey demonstrates an approach based on maintaining peace and stability in all processes in this region. Information operations aimed at undermining our country’s diplomatic successes, which are recognised globally, seek to mislead the international community,” the Turkish presidential office statement continued. The Turkish government called on the public not to believe such “dirty information campaigns” that aim to manipulate public opinion and damage the fragile balance in the region.
