Turkish police on Tuesday arrested more than 200 people suspected of having links to ISIS and outlawed far-left groups. The mass arrests were carried out ahead of a NATO summit to be held in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. The Ankara prosecutor’s office said 209 people had been detained in Ankara, while 32 others remain at large. Of those detained, 185 are suspected of being members of several far-left organisations designated as terrorist groups by Ankara. These include the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), which has claimed responsibility for past attacks in Turkey. Authorities said the operation targeted several groups as part of broader security measures. The Ankara governor’s office had previously announced on Monday evening a ban on all demonstrations from 28 June until the end of the NATO summit, which is scheduled to take place on 7-8 July in Ankara. The summit is expected to bring together leaders from 32 member states, including US President Donald Trump.
