Tunnel in West Sumatra

From Neraca

I read a report on the existence of a tunnel in West Sumatra in the Sunday edition (June 26, 1994) of a newspaper published in Jakarta in the context of tourism promotion.

The article blatantly related the cruelty of the occupying Japanese against the Indonesian people during World War II when the tunnel was built.

I wonder why the writer felt it necessary to focus the story on the cruelty of the colonizers? That report will no doubt make the Japanese scared to visit West Sumatra. After reading this article, I, myself, am afraid to visit that area.

In my opinion, the writer should have narrated the positive points of how the tunnel was built, instead of giving so much weight to the past cruelty of foreign invaders, if the tourist drive was the reason for the article.
