The Tumbilotohe tradition involves the lighting of thousands of oil lamps and torches on this auspicious night, known locally as “malam pasang lampu” (the night of lighting lamps). Historically, these lamps served as illumination to guide worshippers travelling to the mosque during this important night of the Islamic calendar.
The festival attracted numerous visitors who gathered to witness the spectacular display of thousands of oil lamps, reflecting the enduring cultural significance of this tradition in Gorontalo. The event demonstrates the province’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its unique Islamic heritage and community practices during the holy month of Ramadhan.
