Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo has been named a suspect in connection with the extortion of 16 heads of Regional Device Organizations (OPD) at the Tulungagung Regency Government. The proceeds from extorting these dozen officials were allegedly used by Gatut for personal purposes, including providing Eid bonuses (THR) to several members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda).

“This money is suspected to have been used for personal interests such as buying shoes, medical treatment, hosting meals, and other personal needs that were also requested or charged to the OPD budgets,” said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu during a press conference at the KPK in Jakarta on Saturday (11/4/2026).

Guntur stated that part of the extortion proceeds from these dozen regional officials was also used for providing THR. The recipients of these THR bonuses were the Forkopimda at the Tulungagung Regency Government.

“That money was also used by GSW to provide THR bonuses to several members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) at the Tulungagung Regency Government,” Guntur said.

Furthermore, Guntur conveyed that the extorted officials had to borrow money to meet Regent Sunu’s needs. These officials, he continued, often used their personal funds.

“In the Tulungagung case, we found facts that to fulfil the regent’s requests, some OPDs even borrowed funds up to using personal money. This criminal act is not impossible to open new modi, such as project arrangements and gratuities, to collect the money needed by the OPD officials to be deposited with the regent,” he said.

For information, Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo has been named a suspect in connection with the extortion of 16 regional officials at the Tulungagung Regency Government. In addition to Gatut, Dwi Yoga Ambal, as the regent’s ADC or aide, has also been named a suspect.

The suspects are charged with committing corruption offences as referred to in Article 12 letter e or Article 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 on the eradication of criminal acts of corruption together with Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
