Tulungagung Regent Shuts Down Nightlife Venues During Ramadan 2026
Tulungagung, East Java — The Tulungagung Regency Government in East Java has confirmed the closure of all nightlife entertainment venues during the month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE in order to maintain public peace and order.
Tulungagung Regent Gatut S Wibowo said on Monday that the policy is set out in Tulungagung Regent’s Circular Number 400.8/269/20.01.02/2026 concerning Public Peace and Order during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026.
“We have firmly instructed nightlife venues to close and cease operations throughout Ramadan until two days after Eid al-Fitr,” he said in Tulungagung.
The types of businesses affected include karaoke cafés, shiatsu massage parlours, and other nightlife entertainment establishments deemed likely to cause public unease.
Nevertheless, food and beverage businesses such as restaurants, eateries, coffee shops, cafés, and similar micro, small and medium enterprises are permitted to operate during the daytime subject to certain conditions.
The regency government has urged food business operators to install screens or curtains so that eating and drinking activities are not openly visible, as a mark of respect towards those observing the fast.
“Food businesses may continue to operate during Ramadan, provided they respect those who are fasting by putting up coverings,” he said.
Beyond business regulations, the regency government has also restricted a number of public activities to maintain tranquillity.
Night patrol activities have been urged not to use loudspeakers excessively and should be conducted on a limited basis approaching the pre-dawn meal time.
The public is also prohibited from making, selling or setting off firecrackers, including flying hot air balloons fitted with firecrackers, as these pose risks to safety and disturb the security of the surrounding environment.
According to the regent, these measures were taken to prevent potential fires, physical injuries, and to preserve the solemnity of worship during the month of Ramadan.
