Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo has been named a suspect in connection with the extortion of officials in the Tulungagung Regency Government (Pemkab). Regent Sunu threatened his officials with resignation letters if they did not comply with his demands.

KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu initially explained that the demands from Regent Sunu were conveyed to his officials after they were inaugurated. He immediately instructed his officials to sign resignation statements from their positions and to resign as civil servants (ASN).

“After the inauguration, GSW asked the officials to sign resignation statements from their positions and to resign as ASN if they were unable to carry out the tasks and responsibilities assigned to them,” Guntur said during a press conference on Saturday (11/4/2026).

He stated that the officials were also asked to sign statements of responsibility for budget management in their respective work units. Guntur said the resignation statements from positions and ASN were deliberately created to pressure the officials.

“The resignation statements from positions and ASN were deliberately left undated, and copies were not given to the officials. These documents were then allegedly used by GSW as a means to control and ‘pressure’ the officials to be loyal and obey every order from GSW. Those who were not ‘aligned’ with the Regent faced the threat of being dismissed from their positions or even resigning as ASN,” he said.

Indeed, Guntur mentioned that the officials were also asked to hand over a sum of money to Regent Sunu. The money demands totalled Rp 5 billion.

“Then, GSW demanded money from the Heads of Regional Device Organisations (OPD) and other officials, either directly or through an intermediary, Brother YOG (Dwi Yoga Ambal) as the Regent’s aide-de-camp (ADC), with a total demand of around Rp 5 billion,” he said.

As is known, Regent Gatut Sunu was caught in a KPK raid yesterday. Initially, the KPK explained that a total of 18 people were secured. However, in the end, only 13 people were taken to Jakarta for further examination.

Of the 13 people taken to Jakarta, there was Regent Gatut Sunu and his brother, who is a member of the Tulungagung Regency DPRD, Jatmiko Dwijo Saputro. Jatmiko was also taken to Jakarta because he was at the same location as Regent Gatut when the KPK conducted the raid.

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that from the results of the raid, investigators seized a sum of cash. However, he did not detail the total amount of cash seized.

“In this operation, the team also secured evidence in the form of cash,” Budi clarified.
