Tulungagung Prosecutor's Office Examines 30 Witnesses in Griya Kanjengan Corruption Case
Tulungagung, East Java (ANTARA) - The Tulungagung District Prosecutor’s Office in East Java has questioned 30 witnesses in its investigation into alleged corruption in the procurement of the Griya Dalem Kanjengan asset, including former Tulungagung Regent Maryoto Birowo.
Roni, head of the intelligence section at the Tulungagung Prosecutor’s Office, said in Tulungagung on Wednesday that the number of witnesses examined could still increase as the investigation develops.
“To date, 30 witnesses have been questioned and the number may rise to around 36 people,” he said.
According to him, the witnesses come from various parties involved in the asset procurement process, ranging from heirs and a notary to regional government officials and the former regional head.
Roni said former Tulungagung Regent Maryoto Birowo has twice answered summonses to be questioned by investigators.
In addition, investigators have also examined the notary who handled the asset procurement process.
“All the witnesses we have summoned have been cooperative and complied with the questioning,” he said.
The investigation is focused on the procurement process for Griya Dalem Kanjengan, which began in 2017 and was completed in 2022, with a transaction value of around Rp10 billion for land measuring approximately 2,000 square metres.
Although the transaction has been finalised and the asset is now used as the office of the Tulungagung Culture and Tourism Department, the certificate of use in the name of the Tulungagung Regency Government has yet to be issued.
“Investigators are still looking into why the certificate of use has not been issued, even though the procurement process was completed back in 2022,” Roni said.
Earlier, investigators also searched several offices, including the Regional Finance and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD), the Culture and Tourism Department, and the Kepatihan Village Office, to gather documents related to the ownership history and land administration of the property in question.
