Tugu Muda to host national c'ships

SEMARANG (JP): The Semarang-based Tugu Muda table tennis club will host the national championships in the middle of April.

The club's secretary-general, Jayanto Arus Adi, said on Thursday the event was being staged to boost competitiveness among local clubs, which has suffered since the Benawi championships were dissolved.

"Table tennis championships have mushroomed in the country, but we do not have any in Semarang. Therefore, we aim to stage a good-quality tournament like in Bandung, Jakarta, Surabaya and Yogyakarta," he said.

He hoped athletes from top clubs from across the nation would compete in the event. "I hope the Indonesian Table Tennis Association's provincial chapters and clubs throughout the country can send their athletes to the event." (har)
