Tugu Jogja Traffic Busy but Smooth During Long Weekend
The Tugu Jogja area is a popular tourist destination in Yogyakarta. During the long weekend for Waisak and Pancasila Day on 1 June, traffic around Tugu Jogja was observed to be busy but smooth.
DetikJogja’s observation at 4:08 PM WIB showed private four-wheel and two-wheel vehicles dominated the roads. Police and the Transportation Department (Dishub) had begun their duty from around 3:45 PM WIB.
Congestion was noted from the west along Jenderal Sudirman Street and from the north along Mangkubumi Street. A temporary vehicle buildup heading north on Mangkubumi Street was quickly resolved, with traffic returning to normal.
Pedestrian areas around Tugu Jogja were not crowded, with only a few tourists walking, taking photos, and resting to enjoy the evening atmosphere.
A tourist from Malang, Beni, stated he had planned to spend the long weekend in Yogyakarta. ‘It was already planned; three days off until Monday. I chose Yogyakarta because it’s relatively close to Malang and has many recreational spots,’ he told DetikJogja at Tugu Jogja on Saturday, 30 May 2026.
Similarly, a tourist from Jakarta, Maudy, said the appeal of Yogyakarta was why she chose to spend her long weekend there. ‘Yogyakarta is nostalgic for me. Once you visit, you always want to come back,’ she said. ‘I arrived this morning. This (Tugu Jogja) is my first stop; after this, I’ll head to Malioboro.’
