The Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) has indicated that rainfall remains potential across several major cities in Indonesia, ranging from light to very heavy intensity.
“Preparedness for heavy to very heavy rainfall must be increased in the regions of Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, North Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, and South Sulawesi,” said Medayu, BMKG forecaster, during an online weather briefing held in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Specifically for the Sumatran region, he continued, the areas of Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang and Jambi are forecast to experience thick cloud cover on Tuesday.
In the Java region, only Bandung is forecast to experience predominantly thick cloud cover. Jakarta, Serang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya have the potential to experience light rainfall.
Medayu explained that light rainfall is also anticipated by BMKG in the areas of Pontianak, Palangka Raya, Banjarmasin, and Samarinda, with potential thunderstorms in certain periods in the Tanjung Selor region.
