TTU Council Member Veronika Lake Speaks Out on Alleged Intimidation of Doctor
A member of the Timor Tengah Utara (TTU) Regional House of Representatives, Veronika Lake, has finally spoken out regarding the alleged intimidation case involving the late Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, known as Dr Icha, which has drawn significant public attention. Veronika stated she is prepared to be questioned by the police as part of the ongoing investigation.
In a statement made on Sunday, 28 June 2026, Veronika first expressed her condolences. “I, Veronika Lake, humbly offer my deepest condolences on the passing of Dr Icha. May the deceased find the best place beside God Almighty, and may the bereaved family be granted strength and comfort,” she said.
Veronika clarified that her statement was intended to explain the chronology of her presence at Leona General Hospital, not to diminish respect for the deceased or her family. She explained that on 13 June 2026, she attended a gathering of the wives of TTU DPRD members in Insana District. On the journey back to Kefamenanu, she shared a vehicle with two other TTU DPRD members and the wife of a council member. During the trip, one of her colleagues, Therensius Lazakar, asked the group to stop at Leona General Hospital to visit his nephew, who was being treated for a venomous snake bite. According to Veronika, the visit was not a planned agenda. “My presence at the hospital was not a pre-arranged visit,” she stated.
Veronika recounted that upon arrival at the hospital, Therensius Lazakar and Norbertus Tubani entered the treatment room first, while she remained in front of the emergency department with the wife of another council member. She claimed she only entered the room after a debate between her two colleagues and a doctor had already begun. “When I entered, the debate between my two colleagues and a doctor was already underway. I then proceeded to ask about the follow-up treatment for the patient, the standard of care, and the quality of service,” she said.
