TTU Council Member Denies Intimidating Dr Icha, Victim's Uncle Asks: What's the Difference Between Shouting and Speaking in a High Tone?

A doctor named Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, also known as Dr Icha, allegedly attempted suicide following what is believed to be a series of intimidation incidents. According to medical examinations, Dr Icha was diagnosed with severe depression after being shouted at by three members of the Timor Tengah Utara (TTU) Regional Council in East Nusa Tenggara while treating a patient with a snakebite.

The young doctor passed away on Friday, 26 June 2026, at her parents’ home in the RSS Baumata housing complex, Kupang Regency, after receiving treatment at Leona Hospital for one week.

According to the victim’s uncle, Fabianus Banase, medical examinations revealed that Dr Icha suffered from severe depression without psychotic symptoms, experiencing such intense distress that it led to her suicide attempt. “Dr Icha experienced an episode of severe depression without psychotic symptoms, undergoing such great shock that she attempted suicide. This was the result of her examination,” Fabianus Banase stated during the Kabar Utama programme on tvOne.

Fabianus noted that the three accused council members continue to deny shouting at the victim, claiming they were merely communicating in high-pitched tones. “These three council members still deny that they shouted; they claim they only used high-pitched tones. I am asking, what is the difference between a high-pitched tone and shouting?” he remarked.

He further alleged that the behaviour of the three council members acted as a provocation, as they insisted that medical protocols required the patient to be handled within six hours. Other individuals involved allegedly cornered the doctor by scrutinising her treatment methods. “The others accused the late doctor of allegedly using paracetamol and such. Meanwhile, Dr Icha was a referral doctor from the Kefamenanu Regional General Hospital (RSUD),” Fabianus explained.

Previously, the family had planned to transfer her to the Bhayangkara Hospital in Kupang for further care.
