PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL) has collaborated with the National Research and Innovation Agency’s (BRIN) Centre for Biosystematics Research to map marine biota, including plankton, macrobenthos, and nekton, in the waters of Teluk Lamong to support coastal ecosystem preservation. The partnership, which also includes the compilation of the book ‘Wildlife Series 2: Marine Biota of the Teluk Lamong Area’, is intended to serve as a key reference for science-based port environmental management. TTL Corporate Secretary Syaiful Anam stated that the collaboration with BRIN aims to provide a comprehensive picture of the marine biota conditions in Teluk Lamong, ensuring that every environmental management step taken by the company is grounded in robust scientific data. A team of seven researchers from BRIN’s Centre for Biosystematics Research conducted fieldwork from 29 June to 3 July 2026 in the waters of the PT Terminal Teluk Lamong area. Over the five-day period, the team collected samples and identified various groups of marine biota, including plankton, macrobenthos, and nekton, to form the basis for a biodiversity profile of the area. The initiative will also result in the publication of ‘Wildlife Series 2: Marine Biota of the Teluk Lamong Area’, documenting the marine wealth of the region. Anam noted that the direct involvement of BRIN researchers in the field is crucial for producing valid and accountable data. He expressed hope that the research findings would not only benefit the company but also contribute to scientific development and the preservation of coastal ecosystems in Indonesia. Dr Hanung Agus Mulyadi, a Junior Researcher at BRIN’s Centre for Biosystematics Research, reported that initial observations and sampling indicated the marine biota conditions in the PT TTL waters are generally in good shape. The diversity of organisms found, from plankton to macrobenthos and nekton, suggests the ecosystem remains capable of supporting various aquatic life forms. However, Hanung noted that all collected samples will still undergo further identification and analysis in the laboratory to obtain comprehensive results.
