Tsunami Warning Lifted After M7.7 Earthquake Strikes NTT

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has ended the tsunami early warning triggered by an earthquake that occurred in the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region.

“The tsunami early warning caused by the M7.7 earthquake on 15 August 2026 at 04:58:24 WIB is declared to have ended,” BMKG wrote via Twitter on Saturday (15/8).

Even so, further earthquakes were still felt at several points in NTT Province, such as in Ruteng, Manggarai, Bajawa, Mbay, Ngada and other areas.

Previously, an earthquake had occurred in the Flores region of NTT, which was struck by a tectonic earthquake. BMKG analysis showed that this earthquake had updated parameters with a magnitude of M7.7 at a depth of 15 km.

The epicentre of the earthquake was located at coordinates 8.41° S; 121.39° E, precisely at sea at a distance of 30 km northeast of Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara.

Tsunami modelling results showed that this earthquake had the potential to trigger a tsunami in the provinces of NTT, South Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), with an alert status threat level of 0.5–3 metres.

Sea water receded after the M7.7 earthquake shook Mbay, NTT. Coastal residents panicked and evacuated, while Lorens Say Port was reported damaged.

The M7.0 tectonic earthquake in Nagekeo, NTT on Saturday dawn had an impact as far as Lombok, NTB. Residents of Mataram panicked and rushed out of their homes due to the tremors, which were felt for quite a long time.

The magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook Mbay, Nagekeo, NTT, in the early hours of Saturday. BMKG issued a Tsunami Early Warning Level 2 for a number of areas.

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake shook an area 38 km northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo, NTT. BMKG issued a tsunami warning and asked residents to stay away from the coast.

The M7.7 earthquake shook Nagekeo, NTT, on Saturday morning. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that two people died and one was injured at El Say Port, Sikka.

BMKG recorded 37 aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from M3.7 to M6.2 after the M7.7 earthquake shook NTT. The tsunami warning was lifted at 07.30 WIB.
