Tsunami Warning Following M7.7 Philippines Earthquake Lifted, BMKG Explains Why

The Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has officially withdrawn the tsunami early warning for Indonesian territories. This decision follows observations showing no significant rise in sea levels that would present a danger.

“Therefore, the tsunami early warning is declared ended at 10:15:51 WIB,” stated the Head of BMKG, Teuku Faisal Fathani, during a press conference on Monday (8/6/2026).

Earlier monitoring by BMKG at 10:00 WIB indicated 20 aftershock activities with magnitudes ranging from 3.9 to 6.7, two of which were felt within Indonesian territory.

Fathani noted that BMKG continues to monitor the development of aftershock activities resulting from the earthquake and tsunami threat. The public is urged to remain calm and avoid being influenced by unverified information. He also advised citizens to seek official information from BMKG via official communication channels, such as the @infoBMKG social media account and the official BMKG website.

The earthquake in the Philippines previously triggered tsunami warnings across four countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Papua New Guinea.
