Tsunami Warning Ends, Shipping in Labuan Bajo Reopens

The Labuan Bajo Harbourmaster and Port Authority Office in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, has announced that shipping activities have reopened following the magnitude 6.2 earthquake that occurred this morning. Water transport activities are permitted based on the decision of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency to end the tsunami early warning.

According to Shipping Notice number 05/MP-VIII/2026, the Labuan Bajo Harbourmaster stated that although shipping has reopened, all parties must continue to prioritise safety. The office said that following BMKG information that the tsunami potential has been declared safe, shipping from Labuan Bajo is declared reopened while continuing to observe shipping safety.

Ship captains are asked to independently observe weather and wave conditions. Captains are also asked to report immediately if they become aware of natural phenomena related to earthquakes or tsunamis. The harbourmaster and port authority office stated that captains are required to independently monitor weather and wave developments during their voyages and report any notable incidents related to earthquakes or potential tsunamis.

The port authority also reminded vessels that are experiencing difficulties and require evacuation to report immediately to the authority or Basarnas. Vessels are required to report to the Harbourmaster or Basarnas if there are casualties requiring action or evacuation.

Previously, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 occurred in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. The earthquake occurred at 05.13 WIB. BMKG stated that the magnitude 6.2 earthquake was located 46 km northeast of Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres.
