Tsunami victims get new homes

Jakarta: The Australian Red Cross in cooperation with the Zero to One Foundation has handed over more than 500 modest houses to victims of the Dec. 26 tsunami and the March 28 earthquake on Nias island.

The villagers received house keys during a ceremony held recently at Serombu village on the west coast of Nias island.

Construction of the houses started in February, foundation chairman Geoffrey Thwaites said in a statement on Tuesday. -- JP
