Tsunami victims get new homes

CALANG, Aceh Jaya: Some 500 families affected by the Aceh tsunami have been given new homes financed jointly by the East Java provincial government and the East Java people, a senior government official said on Saturday.

The money for the project came from the East Java government and money donated by the public through The Jawa Pos morning daily based in East Java, said Dahlan, the director of the East Java provincial government's housing agency.

The coastal city of Calang, the capital of Aceh Jaya regency, was hardest hit by the tsunami disaster last December. After the tsunami, only 500 families were left in Calang out of an original 5,000. -- Antara
