Tsamara Amany Urges Gen Z to Fulfil Zakat, Infak, and Sedekah through Baznas
Special Staff to the Minister of Youth and Sports for Public Policy and Communication, Tsamara Amany, has urged the younger generation, particularly Gen Z, to channel Zakat, Infak, and Sedekah (ZIS) through the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Indonesia. According to her, Indonesian youth possess a high spirit of generosity and a strong desire to create social impact.
This call was delivered by Tsamara at the Z-Talk: Zakat Strengthens Indonesia event, organised by Baznas RI in Jakarta through mass media and the Matraman Forum silaturahmi.
“Indonesian youth are very generous and want to contribute. If there is space and a channel, they will definitely take action. Baznas has great potential to become the main channel for those who want to engage in social actions, either in the form of funds or involvement as volunteers,” Tsamara explained.
Despite its impressive track record, Tsamara noted that Baznas’s image among the younger generation has not yet received maximum attention. To address this, she proposed that Baznas strengthen its communication strategy through impact-based narratives and storytelling on social media.
In her view, packaging programme successes, such as stories of independent mustahik or aid distribution in conflict areas, would create touching narratives that are easier to attract public interest.
“If the impact narrative is strong and the storytelling is strong, insyaallah more and more people will want to help, channel their aid, and carry out solidarity movements through Baznas. This will also attract our young people who can become drivers whose hearts are truly moved to take social actions,” she said.
Tsamara also highlighted Baznas’s successes in helping to lift 54,000 people out of poverty in 2023. She praised Baznas’s tangible role in international humanitarian actions, particularly for Palestine, where collected funds reached hundreds of billions of rupiah.
“We need to appreciate and encourage this because people need to know that there is an institution in this country that works hard on humanitarian solidarity movements and social solidarities, so that if someone wants to contribute or help, one of the ways is through Baznas,” she stated.
Z-Talk is one of the face-to-face activities between Baznas leaders and media practitioners or leaders. The purpose of this agenda is to serve as a forum to enhance communication and coordination between Baznas leaders and media personnel, as well as to boost motivation and work productivity.
