Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani expressed profound condolences on the passing of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, Try Sutrisno, on Monday morning, 2 March 2026. Puan regarded the late statesman as a figure of exceptional warmth and humility.

On behalf of her personal capacity and the House institution, Puan stated that Indonesia has lost one of its finest sons and a national figure who rendered tremendous service to the nation’s sovereignty.

“May his charitable deeds and worship ease the way for the departed towards his Paradise. And may the family left behind be granted steadfastness,” Puan said, as reported by Antara on Monday.

In her recollections, Puan described Try Sutrisno as a role model capable of embracing all generations. She recalled frequently interacting with the late vice president at various state functions, including the House’s Annual Session last year.

“I greeted him and, as always, he was warm and humble,” recalled the granddaughter of Proclamation figure Sukarno.

Puan emphasised that Try Sutrisno’s dedication during his tenure as Vice President and throughout his military career left a precious legacy for Indonesia. She expressed hope that the late statesman’s spirit of struggle would be carried forward by the current younger generation.

“May his struggle be continued by future generations, and may what Bapak Try Sutrisno left behind continue to benefit Indonesia,” she added.
