Jakarta — Former Vice President Try Sutrisno passed away on Monday, 2 March 2026 at 06:58 WIB at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Military Hospital.

His death represents a profound loss for the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) and the broader military community.

“The Indonesian Army expresses deep condolences over the passing of one of the nation’s finest sons and an exemplary soldier of the TNI,” stated an official statement from the Indonesian Army Information Service.

According to TNI AD, Try Sutrisno was a revered senior military figure whose long service to the nation spanned both military and governmental roles. He was a graduate of the Army Engineering Academy (Atekad) in 1959. Subsequently, he served as ABRI Commander-in-Chief from 1988 to 1993, before being appointed Vice President under President Soehard for the 1993–1998 term.

TNI AD characterised Try Sutrisno as a firm, modest, and principled leader. Under his military command, the Army is said to have continued strengthening professionalism, discipline, and unit cohesion to maintain stability and the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

According to available information, his body was prepared for funeral rites at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto before being transferred to a funeral home at Jalan Purwakarta Number 6, Menteng, Central Jakarta, for the lying-in-state ceremony.
