Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo remembers Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno, who passed away on Monday morning, as a leader capable of embracing all sectors of society.

“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. As someone who knew Mr Try Sutrisno well for a long time, I naturally feel a sense of loss, because he was a founding father of our nation who could unite all people,” said Pramono after paying condolences at the residence of the deceased on Monday.

Pramono revealed that he has known Try Sutrisno since 1995. He also noted that Try maintained a close relationship with Indonesia’s fifth President, Megawati Soekarnoputri. Pramono admitted that he frequently participated in discussions with both Megawati and Try Sutrisno, which makes the loss of this figure deeply felt by him.

He added that his last meeting with Try occurred approximately six months ago, when the late Vice President’s health had begun to decline. Nevertheless, Pramono believes that Try Sutrisno’s spirit never waned despite approaching 90 years of age.

“He remained active at the Pancasila Ideology Development Board (BPIP). When it comes to matters of Pancasila and our constitution, he always held them steadfastly. That is what distinguished Mr Try Sutrisno from other figures—constitutional matters were something deeply embedded, inherent in his life,” Pramono stated.

As previously reported, Try Sutrisno passed away at the Armed Forces Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta on Monday morning at approximately 07:00 Western Indonesia Time.

News of his death was conveyed through messages from family members and the Pancasila Ideology Development Board (BPIP), and was confirmed by several officials from the State Secretariat Ministry and the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres).

According to the information, the deceased’s body was scheduled to be washed at RSPAD before being taken to the residence at Jalan Purwakarta Number 6, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

“We apologise for all wrongdoings and lapses of the deceased during his lifetime. May the deeds and worship of the deceased be accepted by Allah the Almighty. We ask for prayers from you all so that the deceased may find the best place in His presence. Amen, Amen, Amen,” stated an excerpt from the family’s message.
