Trust the MPR
Trust the MPR
From Media Indonesia
According to the talk, the People's Consultative Assembly
(MPR) will convene its special session on Aug. 1. Some say the
MPR's plan to proceed with the special session is
unconstitutional, while others take the opposite stand. President
Abdurrahman Wahid has already agreed to the upcoming special
session, and more interesting to note is there are some parties
who want to move the session forward.
Meanwhile, there are rumors in the media about vice
presidential candidates, such as Hamzah Haz and Yusril Ihza
Mahendra from the ranks of the political parties, and Susilo
Bambang Yudhoyono from the professional circle. Some people again
think it is ethical to discuss vice presidential candidates,
while others don't think it's ethical. It all depends on people's
own judgments.
In this context the governors of Java recently met in
Yogyakarta, at the initiative of the Yogyakarta governor, and
issued the Yogya Declaration.
At the grassroots level, I hope the upcoming MPR special
session will be constitutional, orderly and peaceful, so that it
can arrive at the best solution to solve problems threatening the
nation's unity and integrity.
I believe and trust that MPR members can perform their tasks
well. All of us should honor whatever is the outcome of the
upcoming special session of the MPR.
