Trump's Various Tactics to Pressure Iran Only Prove US Failure

After deploying almost all of its pressure instruments—from sanctions and shows of military force to political coercion—Donald Trump’s new threats against Iran demonstrate Washington’s strategic deadlock, not American strength. According to Mehr News, in the last five months, Donald Trump has tried nearly every form of pressure against Iran. These range from repeated threats of military attack, an increased American military presence in the region, support for a 40-day war, heightened political pressure, to attempts to impose a naval blockade. All these measures share the same goal: forcing Iran to retreat from its strategic positions. However, developments show that none of these options have achieved Washington’s desired outcome. Now, the US president is once again speaking about the possibility of launching a military strike against Iran, an option that previously yielded no benefit for America and, according to many Western analysts, has no prospect of success in the future. In this context, John Mearsheimer, a prominent international relations expert and professor at the University of Chicago, has cast doubt on the effectiveness of the US military option. According to him, the US government has so far been unable to explain how a new military attack on Iran would produce a different result from previous ones.
