Trump's remarks on Irish unification spark British rejection

London (ANTARA) - A statement by United States President Donald Trump regarding the unification of Ireland and Northern Ireland, a constituent part of the United Kingdom, has triggered strong rejection from Britain.

During a two-day visit to Ireland, Trump said on Saturday (12/9) that he would very much like to see Ireland and Northern Ireland unified.

“As usual, President Trump speaks without thinking, just as he did regarding Greenland and Canada, which he wants to make the 51st state,” said British Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch on the X platform on Saturday.

She emphasised that Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom.

“I disagree with President Trump. Northern Ireland is a proud and integral part of the United Kingdom,” said Reform UK leader Nigel Farage on X on the same day.
