Trump's Jab at Iran for Rejecting Peace Negotiations: They're Afraid

US President Donald Trump stated that his administration and Iran are currently negotiating to end the war. According to Trump, Tehran’s denial of involvement in the negotiations stems from their fear of being killed by their own people. “By the way, they are negotiating, and they really want to make a deal. But they’re afraid to say it, because they think they’ll be killed by their own people,” Trump said, quoted from detiNews, as reported by AFP news agency on Thursday (26/3/2026). “They’re also afraid of being killed by us,” Trump continued. Trump’s statement came after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his side has no intention of engaging in peace negotiations with the US. Trump said Iran is being “destroyed” in the raging conflict, although Tehran is still holding the crucial oil route in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also claimed that the Democratic Party is trying to divert attention from all of the US’s successes in the military operations conducted. Trump also ignored the Democratic Party’s demands that he seek congressional approval for the war. “They don’t like the word ‘war’, because you have to get approval, so I’ll use the term ‘military operation’,” he said. Previously, the White House stated that their president is ready to continue the military operations if Iran does not soon admit defeat, while insisting that Tehran is still participating in the talks. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran does not plan to negotiate with the United States and intends to continue the war. This follows US President Donald Trump’s mention that Washington has proposed a peace plan. “Currently, our policy is the continuation of resistance,” Araghchi said, quoted by AFP news agency on Thursday (26/3). Araghchi emphasised that Tehran has no intention of negotiating with the US. He said his side will continue the resistance.
