Trump's Full Statement Regarding Hamas 'Surrender' in Gaza

US President Donald Trump has released a full statement regarding an agreement claimed to have been reached by the Board of Peace (BoP), involving the comprehensive disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in the Gaza Strip.

In his statement, Trump described the disarmament agreement as a significant milestone towards peace and security in Gaza. He also noted that this step would pave the way for the formation of a new Palestinian government to manage the territory.

“This agreement is a crucial step so that Gaza can ultimately be managed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Disarmament to assist the Palestinian people. At the same time, Israel will receive the security it deserves because Gaza will no longer serve as a base for terror attacks,” Trump wrote via Truth Social.

Trump explained that the implementation of the agreement will be carried out in stages. As the disarmament process is completed, Israeli forces are set to be withdrawn from Gaza and replaced by an International Stabilisation Force, which will work alongside a new Palestinian police force. He also emphasised that the threats emerging from Gaza on 7 October will not be allowed to resurface.

“Under this agreement, Gaza will eventually be in the hands of a new Palestinian government that serves its people,” he stated.

Meanwhile, agreement documents obtained by Al Jazeera suggest that Hamas and other Palestinian factions have agreed to a draft containing a disarmament roadmap. The document stipulates the preparation of a detailed implementation plan within 14 days, with potential extensions subject to approval by an international verification body.

Hamas negotiation delegate, Ghazi Hamad, stated that the discussions were lengthy and challenging. “These negotiations have been tough and difficult, and we are striving to reach the best possible formula that can be realised,” he said. However, he emphasised that Hamas will only implement the agreement if Israel also fulfils its obligations, including withdrawing troops from Gaza and supporting the reconstruction of the territory.

A Board of Peace official explained that the disarmament process will begin with the surrender of weapons under police control, followed by the decommissioning of heavy weaponry. All military activities in Gaza are also planned to cease gradually, although implementation is expected to take time.

To date, the Israeli government has not provided an official response to the announcement. Conversely, Palestinian Islamic Jihad stated that reports regarding an agreement between all Palestinian factions and Israel are not entirely accurate, as several objections to the circulating formulation remain.

Further discussions are scheduled to take place in Cairo, involving mediators from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States to secure the commitment of all parties to the next stages. Trump expressed his appreciation to the mediators and his negotiation team for achieving this breakthrough.

One year ago, this region was hit by raging war, a humanitarian crisis, and hostages held in extremely cruel conditions. We have achieved historic progress, although much work remains to be done.
