United States President Donald Trump has boasted that he controls the Strait of Hormuz. However, an Iranian member of parliament has warned Trump not to end up ‘hiding inside a food truck’.

Trump, in his remarks, said he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz as US territory after defeating Iran in a war. ‘After we finish defeating Iran, which is suffering a crushing defeat, I will immediately declare the Strait of Hormuz as United States territory,’ Trump asserted during a visit to the new Nassau County Police Academy in Garden City, New York, on Friday (14/8).

The US President also stressed that the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would remain in place, stating that ‘no ship can pass unless we allow it’.

The issue of the Strait of Hormuz continues to be a source of debate and dispute in the conflict between Iran and the US, with diplomatic efforts to discuss the reopening of the strategic waterway failing to produce concrete results.

Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened as long as the US continues to intervene in the region, particularly by imposing a naval blockade. Tehran has also accused Washington of failing to meet the terms of a memorandum of understanding agreed by both countries.

Trump claimed that the US has ‘full control’ over the Strait of Hormuz and believes it can maintain that control. However, the spokesman for Iran’s joint military command, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Ibrahim Zolfaqari, immediately rejected Trump’s claim. ‘No ship is permitted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without Iran’s permission and supervision,’ he asserted.

Iranian Parliament Mocks Trump

Iranian members of parliament have warned Trump not to end up ‘hiding inside a food truck’.

As reported by Al-Jazeera on Sunday (16/8/2026), the sarcastic warning was delivered by the head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Ebrahim Azizi. He mocked Trump over his claims about the Strait of Hormuz.

‘The US President should be worried about his own security rather than his endless bluster about the Strait of Hormuz; before he ends up hiding inside a food truck,’ Azizi said in his latest post on X.

Azizi’s taunt referred to a food truck in US media reports. It was reported that Trump used a catering truck to move from Air Force One to a smaller government aircraft during a visit to Ankara last month for the NATO summit due to concerns about an Iranian attack.
