Trump's Blacklist Threatens Advanced US Weapons Suppliers' Prospects

Anthropic’s inclusion on the United States government’s blacklist has had a significant impact. The AI company stands to lose billions of dollars in revenue this year.

CFO Krishna Rao stated that President Donald Trump’s sanctions imposed on the company cannot be reversed. “Across Anthropic’s entire business, and considering that virtually every customer undertakes maximum scrutiny, government action could reduce Anthropic’s 2026 revenue by several billion dollars,” Rao said in a court filing submitted by the company to prevent its blacklisting, cited by Reuters on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

The hundreds of millions in lost revenue stem from work performed for the Department of Defence. Additionally, the company could lose between 50% and 100% of revenue from defence contractors and other parties dependent on the department.

Direct losses are estimated at over US$150 million (approximately Rp 2.5 trillion) from existing and anticipated Department of Defence contract revenues. According to Anthropic’s public sector head Thiyagu Ramasamy, the company’s reputation could be destroyed by this policy.

“The designation also tarnishes Anthropic’s integrity and reputation as a trusted partner, having real but incalculable impacts on sales to non-government customers,” he explained.

Several ongoing negotiations have also been disrupted by this issue. The value of planned financial sector partnerships reaches a total of US$180 million (approximately Rp 3 trillion).

One contract worth US$15 million (approximately Rp 252.9 billion) has already been terminated. Meanwhile, one fintech customer has reduced its contract from US$10 million (approximately Rp 168.6 billion) to US$5 million (approximately Rp 84.3 billion) due to the Pentagon situation.

More than 100 of the company’s customers continue to raise questions, as they fear, remain confused, and are hesitant about working with Anthropic.
