Trump Warns Netanyahu Not to Undermine Hamas Agreement
WASHINGTON — The administration of US President Donald Trump has warned Israel to adhere to the agreements established within the Gaza peace plan. The White House stated that President Trump would be ‘very, very disappointed’ if Israel hinders the implementation of the agreed Gaza Strip reconstruction plan.
The warning was delivered by a senior US official to journalists on Thursday (31/07/2026), shortly after Trump announced that Hamas had accepted a disarmament proposal submitted by the Board of Peace. This statement follows a declaration from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, which claimed the disarmament proposal does not yet meet Israel’s demands for the full demilitarisation of Gaza as a condition for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory.
Responding to Israel’s stance, the senior US official emphasised that Washington is not asking Tel Aviv to perform any actions outside the scope of the initial agreement previously approved by both parties. “We are not asking Israel to do anything that is not listed in the 20-point plan they previously agreed to. Therefore, we are confident they will comply. If not, President Trump will be very, very disappointed,” the official said.
The official noted that the agreement serves as the foundation for the release of hostages and paves the way for an end to the war in Gaza. “We are only asking them to adhere to the initial agreement that brings the hostages home and ends the war. Gaza has been Israel’s greatest issue for years,” he added.
The official further stated that the US government remains confident that Israel will act as a partner committed to the implementation of the agreement. He noted that the Israeli government had previously expressed doubt regarding the Board of Peace’s ability to reach an agreement with Hamas, including the release of hostages and the return of victims’ remains. “Israel was unsure if we could reach an agreement to release the hostages. They were also unsure if Hamas would be willing to disarm. However, Hamas has made an agreement and fulfilled its commitment by releasing hostages and handing over the remains of victims. Therefore, we will also ensure that Israel fulfils its commitments,” he said.
The US official also dismissed Israeli criticism regarding the involvement of Qatar and Turkey in the Board of Peace, asserting that both nations, alongside Egypt, play a vital role in maintaining the ceasefire.
