US President Donald Trump has warned his ally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing mounting pressure to avoid further escalating tensions with Iran. “I said, ‘Bibi, you better be careful, or you will be alone very soon’,” Trump stated, using Netanyahu’s nickname, as reported by Israeli local media and Al Arabiya on Tuesday (9/6/2026).

The prominent US media outlet Axios, via Reuters, also reported similar warnings from Trump to Netanyahu. According to Axios, citing US official sources, Trump warned Netanyahu that Israel would be fighting alone if it enters into another war against Iran.

Trump’s warning to Netanyahu comes as Israel and Iran have ceased mutual attacks following the most serious escalation since the ceasefire in early April. Meanwhile, indirect negotiations to reach a peace agreement continue.

Trump, who is reportedly increasingly frustrated with Netanyahu, previously demanded that Israel and Iran stop “shooting” in a post on the social media platform Truth Social. He also stated that “final negotiations” towards peace would continue “notwithstanding ignorance and stupidity hindering them.”

Tensions in the Middle East escalated further on Sunday (7/6), triggered by Israel’s deadly bombing of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. Iran, which has long maintained that a peace deal with the US depends partly on the cessation of fighting in Lebanon, responded with a wave of missile attacks on northern Israel.

Trump reportedly telephoned Netanyahu on Sunday (7/6) evening and requested that he not retaliate against the missile attacks. However, Israel proceeded with strikes against Iran on Monday (8/6) morning local time. Israeli forces targeted Iranian air defence systems and a petrochemical plant. Iran retaliated by striking similar facilities in Haifa and targeting two Israeli airbases. Many missiles were intercepted over the West Bank, with no casualties reported on either side.

Trump has called Netanyahu to request that his ally cease attacks against Iran. In an interview with Axios, Trump stated he had warned Netanyahu about the consequences of continuing the war with Iran.

However, Netanyahu stated in a televised address that he had asserted to Trump that “Israel has the full right to defend itself, and we are using it as we should.”

“Now, the fire on the front lines is controlled, because after we attacked the terrorist regime in Tehran, they stopped attacking us,” Netanyahu said, as reported by Al Jazeera. Netanyahu also warned that if Iran “makes the mistake of continuing its attacks against us, we will respond with full force.”
