Trump wants Iran trade partner tariffs added to Lindsey Graham bill

Washington (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he wants secondary tariffs on Iran’s trading partners included in the sanctions bill against Russia championed by the late US Senator Lindsey Graham.

“I want them to add Iran in the form of tariffs, not just sanctions. I think that’s important. That’s what Lindsey wanted, because I hear they have tariffs on Russia, but not on the five countries connected to Iran,” Trump told reporters.

“I think they should apply it to Russia, but also to Iran,” he continued.

The sanctions bill proposes reducing the previously planned tariff of 500 per cent to 100 per cent for the five largest buyers of Russian oil and gas.

However, at the same time, the bill sets a tariff of 500 per cent on all goods imported into the United States from Russia. The document also proposes imposing sanctions on the Russian Central Bank as well as Sberbank, VTB, and Gazprombank.

The bill, titled the “Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026”, also includes an extension of the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996.

Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy in the United States said on Wednesday that the new sanctions bill would in fact harm the Trump administration and, ultimately, would cause more damage to the United States itself.
