Trump: US will violate ceasefire if soldiers are killed

Moscow (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump will likely only consider ending the current ceasefire agreement with Iran if US troops are killed, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal, citing several officials. On Wednesday, Trump stated in an interview with the Pod Force One podcast that he prefers a diplomatic solution to the situation with Iran for humanitarian reasons. However, he noted that the resumption of US attacks could provide assurance that the conflict will not break out again. Trump is reportedly prepared to face minor incidents that may occur in the coming weeks or even months, the report stated on Wednesday. The report also mentioned that the US administration is working to avoid the outbreak of a full-scale war in the Middle East. On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched joint attacks against several targets in Iran, including Tehran, resulting in damage and civilian casualties. Iran subsequently retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East as an act of self-defence. On 7 April, Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire. However, subsequent negotiations held in Islamabad concluded without producing a breakthrough.
