Trump: US Will Take Over Cuba 'in a Flash'
Hamilton, Canada (ANTARA) - United States President Donald Trump said on Friday (1/5) that the US will take over Cuba “in a very short time” and implied the possibility of deploying an aircraft carrier off the coast to force the island nation to surrender.
“We will take over Cuba very quickly,” Trump said at an event in Florida, claiming that “the Cuban people are facing various problems.”
Trump indicated that the move would follow the US-Israel war against Iran, stating that Washington would deploy naval vessels on the return journey to the US.
“On the way home from Iran, we will deploy one of our big ships, perhaps the world’s largest aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, we will make it come and stop about 100 yards off the coast,” he said.
Trump also implied that this show of force alone would make Cuba surrender, saying, “They will say ‘thank you very much. We surrender,’” and adding, “I like to get the job done.”
On Friday, Trump also signed an executive order imposing new sanctions on individuals and entities associated with Cuba, due to concerns over national security threats and US foreign policy.
He repeatedly stated that Cuba is “next” after the military operation against Iran and that the Caribbean nation will fail “in the near future.”
