New York (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump has stated that Washington will maintain a naval blockade on Iranian ports until Tehran signs a peace deal.

“The blockade will remain fully in place until an agreement is reached, ratified, and signed. Both sides must take their time and do it properly. No mistakes allowed!” Trump said on Truth Social on Sunday.

He added that the negotiations between the two countries, mediated by Pakistan, “are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner.”

“I have instructed my representatives not to rush the agreement as time is on our side,” Trump said.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran in February. Iran retaliated by attacking Israel and US allies in the Gulf region, as well as closing the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire came into effect on 8 April through Pakistan’s mediation and was subsequently extended indefinitely by Trump.
