Trump: US to act swiftly if Iran fails to provide a satisfactory answer
Washington (ANTARA) – US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that the United States would act very quickly if Iran fails to provide a ‘100 percent satisfactory’ answer during negotiations currently under way to reach an agreement. “We are truly at the brink. Believe me, if we do not get the right answer, everything will move very quickly,” Trump told reporters when asked about the possibility of attacking Iran. “We are all prepared. We have to get the right answer. It must be a response that is complete, 100 percent true,” he added. He said that in the worst-case scenario, the US could act within just a few days. “We are dealing with some very good people… We are dealing with some talented people, with good analytical abilities, and we are quite impressed by that,” the American leader said. “Hopefully those people will craft an agreement that will be beneficial to all,” he added. On Tuesday, Trump said the United States could launch a new strike against Iran as early as 22 May or the start of next week. On Monday, the US president said he had postponed the strike in response to requests from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. He added that the request had been made because of serious negotiations underway, which, according to Middle Eastern leaders, could yield an agreement acceptable to the United States. However, Trump said Washington remained ready to carry out a large-scale attack at any time if no agreement is reached. On 28 February, the US and Israel launched strikes against targets in Iran, causing damage and civilian casualties. On 7 April, Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire for two weeks. Negotiations in Islamabad ended without result, and Trump extended the ceasefire to give Iran time to submit a ‘comprehensive proposal’.
