Washington - US President Donald Trump stated that his side has received a new proposal from Iran after cancelling the US envoy’s mission to Pakistan for negotiations.

“They gave us a document that should be better. And interestingly, as soon as I cancelled it, within 10 minutes we received a new document that is much better,” Trump told reporters on Saturday.

When asked about the contents of the document, Trump emphasised that the main focus of the negotiations remains on guarantees that Iran will not develop nuclear weapons.

“Iran must not have nuclear weapons. Very simple,” he said.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Pakistan on Friday, which is serving as a mediator for US-Iran negotiations.

Trump’s special envoys - Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner - were previously scheduled to depart on Saturday, but several reports indicate that the Iranian delegation had already left Pakistan beforehand.

On 28 February, the US and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, which caused damage and killed civilians.

Both sides then agreed to a two-week ceasefire starting on 7 April and talks in Islamabad that ended without results.

The US then imposed a blockade on Iranian ports, while mediators are attempting to arrange a new round of negotiations.
