Trump: US Ready to Attack Iran Whenever We Want
US President Donald Trump has warned that the US is ready to attack Iran “whenever we want”. This warning was issued by Trump following massive US attacks on various Iranian targets that have claimed at least 19 lives, including civilians.
The US and Iran have been exchanging heavy attacks since the weekend. This conflict is recorded as the largest and most intense since last July, when a brief ceasefire took place.
Washington’s forces struck various towns and regions along Iran’s southern coast, as well as near the blockaded Strait of Hormuz, including hitting a wedding ceremony in the town of Kuhestak, Sirik.
Iran retaliated by targeting US military bases and assets located in various regions across the Middle East, such as Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Erbil in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House, as reported by AFP and Al Jazeera on Thursday (3/9/2026), Trump threatened more attacks on Iran.
“We hit them hard last night. They only responded with light blows, but we hit them hard,” the US President said in a statement at the White House on Wednesday (2/9) local time.
“We destroyed far more than just their radar last night,” Trump claimed.
He also claimed that the US attacks “wiped out all the new equipment they were trying to build along the Strait of Hormuz.”
“It was a very devastating attack, and we are ready to launch another attack, whenever we want,” Trump emphasised in his statement.
Trump States Latest Military Operation Against Iran Will Not Last ‘Too Long’
In his statement, Trump also said that the latest US military operation against Iran would not last “too long”.
On Sunday (30/8), US forces attacked Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island, located off the southern coast of the country. Washington stated the attack aimed to prevent Tehran from redeploying sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran retaliated by targeting US military positions in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. The fighting continues, with both nations justifying their retaliatory strikes.
When asked by reporters how long the renewed US military operation against Iran would last, Trump replied briefly: “I don’t think it will be too long.”
Journalists then challenged Trump’s claim regarding the efforts to “paralyse” the Iranian military, asking what other targets remained to be attacked and for what reason. Trump did not answer the question directly, instead claiming that the US holds “very strong control” over the Strait of Hormuz.
“We control the Strait of Hormuz; every day we allow many ships carrying millions of barrels of oil to pass. We do most of this without hindrance; occasionally they fire drones and we shoot them down. We hold control, very strong control,” he asserted.
