Trump: US not launching full-scale attack on Iran due to midterm elections

Istanbul (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that the United States has not launched a “full-scale” attack on Iran because of considerations regarding the midterm elections on 3 November.

Trump predicted that the war would end after the elections, or perhaps even before.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump was asked about the pressure for the US to go “all out” in the war with Iran. The US leader subsequently linked the matter to the upcoming midterm elections.

“Well, maybe I am not doing that because of the elections,” he said.

Trump reiterated his prediction that the war would end shortly after the elections, although he also noted that the conflict could potentially end before the vote.

“They are already stumbling. They are in big trouble,” he remarked.

When asked how Iran could still launch missiles if the US had destroyed most of its military capabilities, Trump replied that Iran would always have missiles to launch.

“They have many, and they still have some. Most have been destroyed… But they have missiles. They will always have a number of missiles,” he said.

Trump also stated that he does not regret how the war with Iran has unfolded, asserting that he does not believe in the word “regret.”

“If I had to do it again, I would do exactly as I did,” he added.

Trump claimed that the US has crippled Iran’s nuclear capabilities and asserted that Iran would utilise such capabilities if they possessed them.

“They are crazy… They would destroy Israel. They would destroy the Middle East and they would start attacking some of our cities,” he said.

“If Iran had nuclear weapons, we would be calling and saying, ‘Sir, can we meet?’ We would face them in a very different way,” he added.
