Washington (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday (5/5) that Project Freedom, the US military operation aimed at escorting ships out of the Strait of Hormuz, will be temporarily halted to see if a peace agreement can be reached between Washington and Tehran.

“Although the Blockade will remain fully enforced, Project Freedom (Movement of Ships Across the Strait of Hormuz) will be suspended for a temporary time to see if an Agreement can be finalised and signed,” Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social.

Trump explained that the decision was based on requests from Pakistan and other countries, as well as significant progress towards a comprehensive and final agreement with Iranian representatives.

Several hours earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the US military operation against Iran, launched jointly with Israel on 28 February, has ended.

This aligns with Washington shifting its focus to Project Freedom in efforts to reopen the vital waterway crucial for global energy.
